Jetfire WebParts Installation Guide

This document is intended to help install the Jetfire Web Parts Sample Website and Personalization Database.

This document answers these questions. This document focuses on the bare minimum that you knew to know and walks you through the set up steps.

Assumptions

The installation instructions make some assumptions about configuration.
  • The instructions address the installation on a single PC with IIS, SQL Server 2005 and (optionally) Visual Studio 2005.
    • The database and website may be installed on different PC's.

What is included in the Jetfire Web Parts download?
  • (optional) Personalization Database. The alternative is to create a new database.
  • Sample Website with Jetfire binaries

Jetfire Web Parts System requirements

In order to complete the Jetfire Web Parts walkthrough, you will need:
  • IIS or Visual Studio to host the Web Server
  • A database server to host the database

Jetfire Web Parts – Installation Procedure

Jetfire Web Parts are ready to be installed.
  1. Install the Personalization Database
  2. Install the Sample website.
  3. Customize the web.config file.

Install the Personalization Database

Two choices exist to install the database
  1. Create Forms Authentication Database - this procedure takes about 20 minutes and is simple if you have an installed SQL Server and use Visual Studio.
  2. Install included database - use this procedure if you are comfortable attaching databases using SQL Server Management Studio)

Install the Sample website

  1. Open zip file: JetfireWebDemo.zip.
  2. Copy the contents of the Sample Website to a folder on the PC that hosts the project. (The preference is to locate the Sample Website folder in the “C:\Inetpub\wwwroot”, but you can place it in any location that you want.
  3. Add a virtual directory to IIS, pointing to the folder where you copied the Sample Website contents.
  4. OR Open Visual Studio 2005 and select “File/Open/Web Site”. Navigate to the Sample Website. This allows you to review and modify the contents of the Web Pages.

Customize the web.config file
